Just a quick note for the steps to restore the content database.
1. Restore the content database from SQL server
2. Check the remove content database in the Manage Content Database Settings in Central Admininstration
3. run “stsadm -o addcontentdb -url http://XXX -databasename XXX -databaseserver XXX”

By modifying Jan‘s script, I created a People Search JQuery which allows partial search on First Name or Last Name.
